Junior secondary

Studying a foreign language benefits students in a number of ways, including:

  •  It contributes to the cultural, personal, educational and intellectual development of the student.
  •   It develops greater sensitivity to and understanding of English and improves the student’s use of English.
  •   It leads the student to recognise the worth of all languages and cultures and thus develops a respect for and tolerance of other people.
  •   It provides more opportunities for employment, especially in the fields of education, hospitality, tourism, commerce, industry, trade, banking, the armed services, medical services, the public service, the diplomatic service and the police service.
  •   It has recreational benefits in that knowledge of another language is useful when travelling overseas.

Senior secondary

At Yeronga State High School we have a number of students studying German, Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, and French.  These subjects are offered off-line either through tutorial lessons one afternoon a week or through the Brisbane School of Distance Education (BSDE).

Please note: subjects studied through the BSDE may attract a small annual fee.

Chinese language is studied across all year levels from 7 - 12.
