At Yeronga State High school we have a broad curriculum that caters to the diverse and individual needs of our students. As well as following the Australian Curriculum we offer a wide range of elective subjects which students can select. As students move through the Junior secondary phase of learning to the Senior secondary phase the choices of electives broaden.

Pastoral Care & Learner Agency Programs
At Yeronga State High School, we're proud to nurture a learning environment where every student is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. Our commitment to student wellbeing and future readiness is reflected in one of our key initiatives: our Pastoral Care Program aka the Learner Agency Program.
What is Learner Agency?
Our Learner Agency Program helps students build confidence, independence, and purpose in their learning journey. Dedicated subjects like Inquire (Years 7–8), Ethics (Years 9–10), and Global Ideation (Years 11–12), delivered during Period 3 every Tuesday, students study Respectful Relationships, explore Career Education, engage in Social Action Projects and undertake lessons focused on Wellbeing, Online Safety, Study Skills and more.
Students also set SMART goals each semester, helping them take ownership of their learning and future pathways.
Preparing for Life Beyond School
While the ATAR system remains a key pathway, we believe in recognising the broader talents of our students.
To support career planning, students complete:
- JET Plans in Year 9 (Junior Education and Training)
- SET Plans in Year 10 (Senior Education and Training)
These plans help students make informed choices about subjects and career options, with guidance from our dedicated staff.
Who Supports Your Child?
Each year level is supported by a Learning Agency Mentor (formerly Year Level Coordinators), working closely with Heads of Department to tailor the program to student needs. These mentors are your go-to contacts for any questions or support (Staff Contact Page).
