As Deputy Principal, my focus is on the holistic development of all students. During the middle years of high school, engagement in schooling (whether it be curricular or extracurricular) is key to success.  The Middle phase of high school is an exciting time where the curriculum expands with more elective subjects and students become more independent in their learning. There is a focus on exploring the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in various Quality education and employment pathways as students transition from the junior to the senior school.

Connecting students with extracurricular activities and clubs helps students to build connections with peers, staff and the community – enhancing harmony in the school.  Connected students are engaged students.  Our Learner agency program in middle phase of high school is focused on Ethics and choices.

It is during the middle phase of high school that students develop a strong sense of their capabilities as learners.  Work habits in particular subjects help students to understand the ways that they like to work and the areas they experience success.  Developing sustainable work habits in the middle years of high school sets the foundation for the learning pathway that students will explore through the SET planning process.

SET PLANS – Senior Education and Training Plans

These plans are mandatory requirement for every young person to complete during Year 10. The plan is a road map and is a means of expectation of students having a plan for their future after high school. Students are required to reflect on their current learning and consider their future possible pathways and their means of achieving it.  Careers and tertiary planning resources support the creation of these plans. A senior education and training plan (SETP) plan helps students structure their learning around their abilities, interests and ambitions. As part of the planning process, students think about their future, consider their abilities and investigate their options for careers and further education. Whilst the plan is finalised and discussed with parent meetings in August, the SET plan is self-reviewed periodically to monitor the student's progress. It can be updated at any time.

Welcome to the Middle School at Yeronga State High School!

As the Middle School Head of Department (HOD), I'm here to support you as you navigate through Years 9 and 10, which are pretty crucial years as you start thinking about your pathway into Senior School. My role is all about making sure your transition from junior years into these middle years is as smooth as possible and that you're ready for the next big step.

Year 9 is all about setting a solid foundation, while Year 10 is where you start looking ahead to Senior School. I'm here to guide you through that process, making sure you've got the tools, confidence, and support to choose the right subjects and plan your future. We run Transition Programs to help you step up from Year 9 into Year 10, getting you ready for what's to come in Senior School – both academically and personally.

I'll also be keeping track of your achievements, behaviour, and attendance to ensure everything is on track. If there's anything you need, whether it's advice or a chat about how things are going, I'm here. Our Learner Agency Conversations are a great chance for us to check in on your progress and set goals that keep you moving forward.

We also believe in fostering leadership potential, and Year 9 and 10 are perfect years to step into leadership roles. Together with your Learner Agency Mentor, I'll help you unlock those skills and build confidence that'll serve you well in Senior School and beyond.

Of course, it's not all just about the classroom! I oversee a variety of extra-curricular activities and opportunities that are designed to round out your school experience. You'll find all the details in our Junior Subject Handbook and the Clubs and Events booklet, and I encourage you to get involved and make the most of what's on offer.

I'm really excited to work with all our Year 9s and 10s as you gear up for the next stage of your educational journey. Senior School is just around the corner, and I'm here to help you make that transition with confidence and success!

Welcome to Year 9!

I am excited to be working with this year's wonderful year 9 cohort. My role is to foster a nurturing and safe environment, where all students in the year 9 cohort can strive to be the best versions of themselves.

This year will kick of with camp, an opportunity for students to further their leadership, courage and social skills. Our cohort will also be focusing on Ethical Choices throughout the year by participating in our new microcredentialling program. The Microcredential program is our long term commitment to create students that are responsible, skilled and active citizens of our world.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome to Year 10!

Senior Secondary commences at Yeronga in Year 10 as students explore various opportunities and pathways in their educational journey.  In Term 3, the Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan is an important event in the Year 10 calendar. The SET Plan requires students to choose the pathway for their education, and is an opportunity to think about post school career goals. This means matching each of their subjects to their interests and readiness.

My role as Year 10 Coordinator is to follow the school's vision and ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve 'Quality Pathways to Success'. I hope to instill pride and passion within the Year 10 cohort, as we uphold our agreed school values of: quality, harmony, and sustainability.

Please don't hesitate to contact me or your student's teacher if you require information or support.
