Developing 21st century skills through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) education
The future of employment is changing rapidly with many industries requiring a cross disciplinary approach to ensure they are competitive in this era of globalisation. Education plays a crucial role in ensuring that our students have the 21st century skills and digital capabilities to meet the challenges required of a future work force. At Yeronga State High School, STEM is taught in a cross disciplinary approach. Our STEM curriculum focuses on real-world problem solving through project-based and inquiry-based learning.

Advanced Manufacturing Extension Program
In this program you will learn to design, prototype and manufacture a camper trailer, similar to the examples below. Yeronga SHS is one of a small number of Gateway to Industry – Advanced Manufacturing Schools. Through this partnership, students will have the opportunity to visit and work with some of Queensland's leading manufacturers who have adopted Industry 4.0 practices and advanced manufacturing technologies. One of our partners for this project is StyroMAX who specialise in designing and manufacturing fibreglass composite insulated panels for the recreational vehicles (RV) industry.
Extension program outline
Across the program, students will have the opportunity to learn how to:
- use critical and creative thinking skills to design a camper trailer
- use Autodesk Inventor to draw and model parts for manufacturing
- use V Carve Pro software to setup parts for laser cutting and CNC routing
- use additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies (laser cutter, CNC router and 3D printers)
- build a quarter scale model of their camper trailer design
- construct a full-scale prototype
- design and install electrical systems for recreational vehicles
