Visual Art is part of the Creative Industries faculty at Yeronga State High School.

Junior and Middle Secondary (Years 7 to 10)

Junior secondary school Art has a lot to offer to:

  • Students who like Art as a recreational pursuit
  • Students who like Art as an academic subject
  • Students who are interested in a number of careers.

Aside from the obvious careers of Artist, Art teacher, Graphic Artist, Designers, Photographers, Architects and Landscapers, there are many other vocations where a background in Art studies may be relevant. These include: Primary and Pre-school Teaching, Hairdressing, Retail, Marketing and many aspects of the hospitality industry.

Senior Secondary (Years 11 and 12)

Visual Art is an ATAR subject. Students are not required to have completed years 9 and 10 Art although this would be preferable. This course is suited to students who have a natural ability in art as well as those who wish to develop art skills.

Students may elect to study a Certificate II in Visual Arts. This subject aims to offer students the opportunity to study Visual Arts Making without the demanding theoretical extended writing component in the Visual Art ATAR subject. Also it aims to make them aware of vocational possibilities in the Visual Arts.
