Terry Heath
In July 2007, Terry Heath was appointed Principal of YSHS where 17% of eligible students in 2007 received an OP 1-15 (one of the lowest performing in the State); 69% of graduates achieved a QCE; and the School Opinion Survey (SOS) showed 67.7% of students agreed they were 'getting a good education at this school'. These indicators signalled the need for school improvement through visionary leadership through a repertoire of leadership practices for success. Through a process of inquiry, reflection, and action planning, our objectives for transformation included:
- Providing learning opportunities to bridge gaps in student knowledge and skills
- Developing pathways for the success of all students
- Improved academic achievement and transitions for the year 12 cohort
Terry led a multi-pronged approach to transforming learning outcomes, which contributed to the school winning the 2013 State Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, and finalists in 2015 and 2017.
