At Yeronga State High school we have a broad curriculum that caters to the diverse and individual needs of our students. As well as following the Australian Curriculum we offer a wide range of elective subjects which students can select. As students move through the Junior secondary phase of learning to the Senior secondary phase the choices of electives broaden.
PASTORAL CARE PROGRAM
LEARNER AGENCY PROGRAM
At Yeronga State High School, we recognise it is imperative to cater for diverse needs of our students and commit to the delivery of our customer value proposition.
As a very diverse learning community, we are forging ahead with our partnership with Melbourne University's New Metrics to develop a Learner Agency Program that aims to provide a tailored approach in recognising our students' capabilities that align to their future aspirations.
Formerly known locally as Y-Care, this 2024 program will encompass individual subjects from Year 7 to 12, offering incremental skill development over six Elements (Active Citizenship, Agency in Learning, Ethics, Communication, Collaboration and Quality Thinking) to enhance our students' self-directed learning capabilities.
While the QCAA continues to operate with the ATAR system, we are firm in our belief that our students deserve a broader recognition of their skills and capabilities demonstrated both formally and informally in school. VTAC are already moving to recognise Microcredentials as a valid entrance method.
Additionally, at Yeronga, we recognise that it is the responsibility of our staff and leaders to help our students realise their full potential. In Year 9, students complete a JET-Plan (Junior Education and Training Plan) and in Year 10 they participate in SET-P (Senior Education and Training Plan), to ensure students consider their subjects and career pathways.
On student's timetables, Period 3 on a Tuesday will reflect the program their Year Level is undertaking. Year 7 and 8 will study Inquire, Years 9 and 10 will study Ethics, whilst the Year 11 and 12 students will study Global Ideation. These subjects will encompass the Microcredential skills from the University of Melbourne, along with a focus on Student Wellbeing, Career Pathways and develop their Learner Agency Conversations, with students setting SMART goals each semester.
Our Learning Agency Mentors (formerly Year Level Coordinators) work in tandem with their Head of Department to develop and implement their Learning Agency Program. Any questions, please contact the Learner Agency Mentor for the relevant cohort.
