Aim
The Trade Academy is a two-year program (Year 11 and 12) commencing in 2024. In 2025, the Trade Academy will be a three-year program (Year 10, 11 and 12). It is aimed at providing an alternative pathway to senior students who want to pursue a trade pathway post schooling. The Trade Academy is as rigorous as students pursuing an ATAR pathway.
Pre-requisites
Students applying to the Trade Academy must maintain a Satisfactory or Above in Effort and Behaviour across all subjects.
Program details
The Trade Academy is capped at a maximum of 20 students. The timetable is adjusted to suit the student's individual pathway based upon subject courses and or school-based traineeships/apprenticeships.

Students enrolled in the Trade Academy will be in the same Care Class, Essential English, Essential Mathematics and Certificate III in Business and Entrepreneurship.
Yeronga's Trade Training curriculum focuses on real world problem solving through project-based learning. Students will develop a broad range of industry knowledge and skills that include:
Furniture Making & Recreational Vehicles
Certificate II in Furniture making Pathways
- A range of hand made and machined timber joints
- Solid timber furniture and composite panel cabinets
- Manufacturing a full-size camper trailer - designed by Yeronga SHS STEM students
Automotive Engineering
Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
- Welding, sheet metal, metal turning and milling
- Manufacture and build a Formula Race Car
- Design and manufacture electric Go Karts (e-Karts)
Advanced Manufacturing - Drones
Certificate III in Process Manufacturing
- Engineering – Sheet metal and metal turning
- Advanced manufacturing – CNC routing, laser cutting and 3D printing
- Inventor 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) and VCarve Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM).
- Design, prototype, manufacture and evaluate drones
Students can apply for a traineeship/apprenticeship in Year 10 or 11.
Training and Assessment
Learning, training and assessment will occur over weeks 1 to 8 each term.
In weeks 9 and 10 of each term, students will either engage in industry placement, work experience, additional time allocated to their school-based traineeship/apprenticeship, solid days of VET catch-up sessions

Applying
Applications to the Trade Academy will open in Semester 1 until the start of Term 3 to Year 10 students.
Students wishing to apply to the Trade Academy must submit an expression of interest form to the Enrolments Officer by the start of Term 3. In the application form, students must reference possible trade pathways they wish to explore, consider and what they hope to achieve as a result of the involvement in the Trade Academy.
Students must attend a 10-minute interview with a school-based person and a person from industry (representative) to assess their suitability for the academy.
Students are notified if they are successful or not successful in their application via email from the enrolment's officer.
