At Yeronga State High School, classroom teachers in their day-to-day teaching place a high priority on identifying and addressing the learning needs of individual students. Teachers monitor the progress of individuals, identify learning difficulties and tailor classroom activities and assessment task to appropriate levels. All staff have high expectations for the learning opportunities of all students.

Guide to Student Support – Support and Intervention (Inclusive Education)

The Department of Education is transitioning all QLD state schools to the SWD – RAR model (Students with Disability – Reasonable adjustment resourcing (RAR) (1). RAR will provide resources to schools to enable them to make reasonable adjustments for students with disability (2) to support them to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. Once a student is identified as requiring support at school, they are recorded in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) https://www.nccd.edu.au/.

Whilst funding is allocated to the school for students on supplementary to extensive levels; schools receive a range of resources which can be used to meet the needs of their school community and the diverse needs of students.

At Yeronga SHS, we believe in a whole school approach to inclusive education (3) where every student receives the level of support they require. Students are welcomed, engaged, learning and achieving to their potential whilst being supported by reasonable adjustments and teaching strategies tailored to meet their individual needs

At Yeronga SHS, we are dedicated to offering a responsive support system that meets the needs of every student. We strive to create a safe, supportive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment, ensuring that all students have access to the full range of educational opportunities available at our school.

Additional support is layered, depending on the specific needs of the child, and normally fits within 3 levels of intervention – moving from universal to intensive support.

Student Support Management is available to any student who needs additional assistance beyond the standard differentiated support provided in classrooms. This includes support in advocacy, engagement, social-emotional development, and curriculum and pedagogical adjustments. Each student's needs are assessed to ensure they can effectively access both social and learning environments. Student Support Managers specialize in implementing inclusive educational support strategies in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) (1) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE) – 2). They also offer expert guidance to curriculum staff on developing inclusive teaching and learning approaches, and work closely with parents and community members to build strong partnerships, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
