Yeronga State High School is proud to announce that the school has been recognised as an Excellence Awardee in four categories at the Australian Education Awards 2026.

The school has been shortlisted for:

  • Secondary School of the Year – Government
  • Department Head of the Year
  • Best Student Wellbeing Program
  • Global Innovation in Curriculum Design

This recognition follows Yeronga SHS's success at the 2025 awards, where the school won the Best Co-Curricular Program award for Horizons and was also recognised for its Student Wellbeing Program.

A special congratulations goes to Ms Lauren Askin, who has been recognised in the Department Head of the Year category. Lauren’s leadership, commitment to student achievement and dedication to the continued growth of the Athletes Academy and HPE programs have made a significant impact across the school community.

The nomination for Best Student Wellbeing Program reflects the strong culture of care and support at Yeronga SHS, and the proactive work of the Wellbeing Team in ensuring students are supported to succeed both academically and personally.

Yeronga SHS has also been recognised in the Global Innovation in Curriculum Design category for its pioneering work in partnership with the University of Melbourne and New Metrics. Through this collaboration, the school has helped develop and implement innovative approaches to curriculum design, assessment and student learning, creating meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate their capabilities beyond traditional measures of achievement. This work reflects the school's commitment to preparing young people with the skills, knowledge and dispositions needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Principal Mr Ben Orford said the recognition highlights the collective effort of staff, students and the wider school community.

"Being recognised across four categories is a reflection of the passion, commitment and hard work that occurs across our school every day," Mr Orford said.

"Our staff continually create opportunities for students to succeed and thrive, while delivering quality pathways to success for every learner. We are particularly proud to see our innovative curriculum work recognised nationally, alongside our ongoing commitment to wellbeing, excellence and student achievement."

The nomination for Secondary School of the Year – Government also reflects the significant progress and growth of Yeronga SHS, as well as the school's ongoing commitment to maximising opportunities for students through innovative programs, strong wellbeing supports and a culture of excellence.

While the awards celebrate outstanding achievements in education, the recognition also serves as an acknowledgement of the positive difference being made in the lives of students each day at Yeronga State High School.

The Australian Education Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of schools, principals, teachers and education professionals across the nation, celebrating excellence and innovation in Australian education.
